About WFT Programming
Wheelock Family Theatre’s educational program is designed intentionally to provide opportunities for students of different ages and stages to grow both theatre skills and life skills. Classes are designed to meet students’ developmental level, and are encouraged to take our foundational process-based classes more than once. Students are invited to go deeper within a particular series and also to broaden their experience by taking classes across three series: Acting, Musical Theatre and Design.
- Our Acting Series begins with imaginary play and creative drama, progresses to develop foundational actor’s tools and then expands to introduce students to different acting methods and genres.
- Our Musical Theatre Series begins with music making and creative movement, progresses to introduce students to essential musical theatre technique and expands to expose students to different musical theatre styles.
- Our Design Series begins with visual art experiences and progresses to hands-on classes in set design, lighting, props, costume, make up, and sound and culminates in the application of learning with design opportunities connected to our education program productions.
Inclusion
We make intentional choices in our classroom practices to make sure we are a welcoming space for peoples of all race, ability, ethnicity, economic status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Our program includes need-based scholarships, introductions with pronouns, and a faculty happy to work with families to meet students’ individual physical, learning, and social needs.
If there are ways we can be welcoming to your family, please let us know at wfted@bu.edu.
